ROGERS ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY
FOR 20TH DISTRICT STATE HOUSE SEAT
WATERLOO – Walt Rogers of Cedar Falls announced his intention to seek the Republican nomination for a seat in the Iowa House of Representatives. Rogers intends to run in House District 20, currently represented by Doris Kelley.
In 2008, Rogers ran against incumbent Senator Jeff Danielson. Danielson, the President pro tem of the Iowa Senate, was reelected by a margin of only 22 votes out of over 32,000 total votes cast; among votes cast in person on Election Day, Rogers won by a margin of over 2,400 votes.
“In the year since my last campaign ended, the state’s budget shortfall has grown to a billion dollars,” said Rogers. “I cannot stand idly by and watch as the Democrats in Des Moines spend away Iowa’s future.”
Rogers continued, “There are many issues driving my decision to run again, from education to property tax relief, from jobs to the right kind of health care reform. But for many voters and for me, the overwhelming issues facing us are irresponsible, runaway spending and the relentless growth of an intrusive government. It’s time to fight for a smaller, smarter government – a government more accountable and more responsive to the people of Iowa.”
Rogers is the Next Generation Director at Prairie Lakes Church in Cedar Falls. A community leader who has been involved in many projects and initiatives, Rogers spearheaded the Onefest music festival and served on the board of Alternatives Pregnancy Center in Waterloo. He has been a member of the Cedar Falls Safe & Drug Free Committee, the core planning team of Love Cedar Valley (a community kindness event), and the My Waterloo Days planning committee.
Walt has been married to Jenny, a Speech-Language Pathologist employed by Area Education Agency 267, for 29 years; Walt and Jenny have three children. Jonathan and his wife Katie live and work in Cedar Falls. Alli and her husband Kirk work in the music industry in Nashville, Tennessee. Michael is a freshman at Belmont University, also in Nashville. Walt ran track at the University of Northern Iowa, where he received his degree in industrial technology with an emphasis in manufacturing and management. He grew up in west Waterloo and currently resides in Cedar Falls. House District 20 is comprised of portions of west Waterloo, southern Cedar Falls, Hudson, and southwestern rural Black Hawk County.
